This publication is mostly dedicated to the development and application of intelligent business management systems and IT support to business processes. A variety of topics are addressed, including interesting articles on business and IT virtualization, Cloud Computing, outsourcing, development of Integrated Information Systems, Business Intelligence class systems, e-business,
e-commerce, e-communication and the information society.

Section titled Project Management, Business Process Reengineering, Cloud Computing and Outsourcing presents business and information process reengineering problems, where any solution has to be preceded by informatization. Other topics in this section include information systems design management methods and tools, as well as the key issues of cloud computing and outsourcing. Cloud computing makes it easier for organizations to adapt to market changes and to business challenges on a current basis. It also facilitates flexible management of IT services and enhances efficient use of the IT infrastructure and human resources. By means of cloud computing, organizations eliminate cost-intensive IT infrastructure, choosing to rent the computing capacity and memory needed from service providers. IT outsourcing is also becoming increasingly popular as a solution to enable organizations to cut out investing in IT infrastructure – including purchasing it, maintaining and keeping it up to date. The capital released in this way can be shifted to innovation and development, changing the structure of operating costs.

Next section, titled Business Information Systems Development, Applications, Implementation and Security, contains interesting statements and proposals concerning information processes modeling and security, as well as development, deployment and operation of Integrated Information Systems (IIS) to meet organizations’ assets management needs, in various industry sectors. Implementation of an IIS facilitates enhancing customer value, the level of customer satisfaction and loyalty. It also contributes to greater profitability and quality and productivity of IIS final users’ work, but could also pose significant risks.. The study outlines methods and tools that can be used to reduce this risk. According to analyses made by the Authors of this section, organizations are not wholly  effective in the sphere of information integration and risk management.

Section titled Web-Oriented Information Services and System discusses IT infrastructure virtualization occurring as a result of the availability of various networking solutions and services. Data Center Networking and virtual assistants are typical examples of this process. Moreover, the section presents interesting case studies of networking solutions and virtual assistants. The focus is on both the benefits and threats involved, as well as on software reducing risk and improving the security of networking solutions and virtual assistant services.

Business Intelligence Systems (BIS) and Knowledge Management Systems (KMS) with document and data warehouses are discussed in section titled Business Intelligence Systems, Knowledge Based Management Systems and Data Warehouses. These systems enable organizations to integrate their dispersed data, information and processes based on standardization of data, common record keeping and reporting platforms. As a result, pre-analyses and early warning procedures can be developed, as well as insights into the current and future market situation, risk assessment and analysis of business scenarios effects. Implementation of BIS and KMS in the sectors covered by the study was a basis for designing innovative business processes and information processes flows. As a result, costs of paper documents issue and control have been reduced significantly. Moreover, information – previously unattainable – on how processes perform can be obtained now, business processes and information processes are monitored and improved on a continual basis, while customer loyalty, confidence and satisfaction has increased.

E-business, e-commerce and e-banking development issues and trends,  discussed against the background of the web-based services sector are presented in next section.  Here, the focus is on the scientific and practical aspects of effectiveness, profitability, financial responsibility and investing conditions for ecommerce, e-finance and e-governance. The areas covered are perspectives and trends in the evolution of electronic communication and knowledge-based economies, in connection with the elimination of national and international trading barriers and countries’ competitiveness improvement on both national and international perspectives. In addition, the issues discussed include the development of mobile and internet payments in traditional and mobile banking. In the authors’ opinion here, international project cooperation is a key to modern commerce, while mobile and internet payments are innovations of fundamental business importance as new economy paradigms, especially in tourism. These changes spur development of virtual organizations or cyberorganizations, with flexible working time as one of the main results.

Rational information management is believed to play a significant role in the achievement of these goals.
